The town of Coaldale is getting a near $3.5 million boost. Alberta Minister Devin Dreeshen and MLA Grant Hunter visited Coaldale Friday to make the announcement.

The funding comes from the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program for the town’s Industrial Rail Extension Project. A new rail spur will be constructed to link Coaldale’s industrial park and the recently established NewCold food storage facility to the CPKC rail line to make Coaldale a leading hub in Alberta’s distribution supply chain.

The project, worth eight million dollars, is jointly funded by the town of Coaldale, NewCold and the province through the STIP grant.

Coaldale’s Mayor, Jack Van Rijn says this project represents one of the most significant and unique industrial infrastructure investments in the town’s history.
