City of Lethbridge recycling asphalt to fill potholes during winter

While it may not be the season where most road work gets done in Alberta, City of Lethbridge crews are taking advantage of the warm weather to address potholes on city streets.

Even while the main asphalt producing plants remain closed, the city’s transportation operations are recycling old asphalt chunks to extract fresh, hot asphalt.

Potholes typically form when weather drastically changes when moisture freezes and expands within the pavement, breaking it down. So, crews are getting ahead of it while the temperatures remain high and especially dry.

The city adds they receive an average of 800 requests in a season to fill in potholes. Residents can report potholes by calling 311 or visiting the city’s website.

The City, meantime, is asking residents to look out for crews on-site repairing city roads.
