Officers at Alberta’s largest U.S./Canada border crossing intercepted two separate commercial trucks and seized over 200 kilograms of cocaine, according to Canada Border Services Agency.
A driver and a passenger of the first truck were stopped at the Coutts border and arrested on July 26th where they were found with 80 suspected cocaine bricks packed in four boxes among the declared load upon secondary examination. A total of 90.94 kg (200lb) of cocaine was seized
A second truck was examined after attempting to cross days later on July 31st. 107 bricks of cocaine weighing 124.6 kg (274lb) were seized, and the driver was arrested.
RCMP took control of the 215.5 kilograms of cocaine, equivalent to 475 pounds. Both investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, Janalee Bell-Boychuk, Regional Director General of the Prairie Region with Canada Border Services Agency said, “CBSA officers are the first line of defense at ports of entry across the country. These significant cocaine seizures at the Coutts port of entry demonstrate the vigilance, expertise and dedication of our border services officers in preventing illegal drugs and other contraband from entering Canada and causing harm to our communities.”
CBSA says in 2025 alone, officers in Alberta made 1,292 seizures of illegal narcotics, including 1,054 kg of cocaine and 279 kg of methamphetamine.
