Care From The Heart Day Radio-a-thon fundraiser to support Chinook Regional Hospital
Today marks the 11th annual Care From The Heart Day Radio-a-thon. Six local radio stations are participating to raise funds for the Chinook Regional Hospital. The goal this year is $250,000.
The Care From The Heart Radio-a-thon had to pivot to a different format this year. Instead of media, radio stations, and donors making their way to the Chinook Regional Hospital, donations were made virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The money will go towards equipment in the emergency room, supplies for frontline workers, and the support of the mental health area within the hospital, “There’s no area of the hospital that will not be supported by donations, like the ones that are going to come in today,” says Jason VandenHoek, Executive Director of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation.
$3-million has been donated over the 11 years since the event started.
Gillian Macleod, the Afternoon Host for All Hits B93.3fm says that this is her fifth year doing the Radio-a-thon, “It’s important to everybody I think, because everybody’s affected by it. 100% of the proceeds stay right here in Lethbridge.”
Macleod adds that this is a time for everyone to come together, “We’re all working to get the same results on this. We use the services at the hospital. The other radio stations use the services. It’s one of our favourite times of the year.”
As of now, the Radio-a-thon has over $200,000 donated.
