Canadian journalist takes over citizen-led COVID-19 inquiry
A journalist who worked on the TV series the Fifth Estate is taking over from Preston Manning for the national citizen-led inquiry into the federal government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Trish Wood steps in for Manning who was hired by the Alberta government to review Alberta’s response of the pandemic. Wood says the country is broken after the last two and half years and hopes the inquiry will give Canadians a much needed voice.
“Depending on what silo you were in, you may or may not have believed certain things about the virus, about public policy, about vaccines. And what that did was really tear us apart as a country. And that is to me, one of the saddest things of all. We can lay down a bit of a roadmap to the future, but also maybe encourage some healing about what happened and weigh if what happened was worth the pain at the end of the day that many of us felt.”
An interim report is expected to be released to the public by June of this year.
