Canadian College World Series to begin baseball festivities

UPDATE: The Canadian College Baseball Conference World Series has been relocated to Lloyd Nolan Yard for the entirety of the tournament. The decision was made after a review of Spitz Stadium’s field conditions, after new infield turf was installed prior to the World Series. The move is meant to uphold long-term preservation and integrity of the new turf.

President of Spitz Stadium Society, Kevin Kvame, says while the move is disappointing, their responsibility is to prioritize safety while ensuring facilities remain the best possible condition for the athletes and community moving forward.

The Stadium remains closed until May 28th, when the Bulls open their season against Brooks. The TCMM Memorial Game scheduled for May 26th has been cancelled as a result, and it’ll be moved sometime in September.

ORIGINAL: If you’re a fan of baseball in the Lethbridge area, you’ll want to check out a list of festivities at Spitz Stadium this month beginning tomorrow.

The Canadian Grand Slam of Baseball starts Thursday with the Canadian College World Series, featuring the top collegiate baseball clubs in the country including the Lethbridge-based Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs.

The World Series coincides with the ‘Festival at the Ballpark’, where live music, beer gardens, family-friendly activities and baseball skill challenges will take place throughout the weekend. But as for the action on the field, the Dawgs are focused to cap off a successful season with a national championship.

Prairie Baseball Academy finished first in the Canadian College Baseball Conference this season with a 25-11 record. Their first game begins Thursday at 7p.m. versus Vancouver Island University.
