A town in central Alberta may soon be the home to the largest data centre in all of Canada.
More than 300 acres of land will become home to Synapse Data Centre. Their plan is to build 10 100-megawatt data centres within a one-gigawatt campus in the Town of Olds.
Synapse plans to invest $10 billion over two years into the projects development that’s aimed at meeting the demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other data-intensive technologies. It’s estimated the project would create 2,000 construction jobs alongside an additional 1,000 permanent jobs.
The Mayor of Olds, which is home to over 9,000 people, says the new centre is expected to create significant growth in the community with hundreds of housing units being built.
