Alberta separatism debate remains controversial

“Alberta — America’s 51st State” continues to spark controversy among those who support the idea and those who strongly oppose it. The topic was front and centre this week at the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA). Tom Sindlinger, an international economic analyst, outlined what Albertans could face economically and politically if separatists were to win a vote.
A recent Mainstreet Research poll shows three in ten Albertans support separation, a figure consistent with several other surveys in recent weeks.
