Fire destroys garage, multiple vehicles in West Lethbridge

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to two separate residential structure fires over the weekend.

Crews from three stations attended a home in the 1800 block of 4 Avenue North on Sunday afternoon. A fire was located in the rear bedroom of a single-story home. Crews prevented it from spreading to other areas of the home. No injuries were reported.

And just before 1 a.m. on Monday, crews from four stations responded to the 500 block of Columbia Boulevard West, to find a detached two-car garage on fire. Witnesses told BCN they were awoken the sounds of  explosions and pops and the sight of towering flames. The garage and three vehicles were destroyed, and the fire caused significant damage to the duplex. No one was harmed.

The causes of both fires remain under investigation.

The city asks residents to check that smoke alarms are working on every level of the home. Test alarms monthly, replace batteries when needed and replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
