Lethbridge solar field developer completes Due Diligence process

The developer of two planned solar fields south of Lethbridge says it’s completed the first phase of due diligence for the Lethbridge Two and Three fields.

The Alberta Utilities Commission issued approval last year for each project to be developed pending developer NU E Power acquires a development permit and proper rezoning. NU E has recently advanced Lethbridge Two and Three’s expected energy output capacity to 167 megawatts. In comparison, the currently operational Lethbridge One plant produces a gross capacity output of nine megawatts.

In addition to the announcement, NU E Power has also secured extended land lease terms for a 336-megawatt project in Hanna, Alberta, currently in preconstruction development. Both advancements in Hanna and in Lethbridge were previously marked in its Letter of Intent that was co-signed with Green Harbor Partners Corp, a Korea-based private equity and asset management firm.

NU E CEO Broderick Gunning said in a statement, “Closing the first phase of due diligence is a major validation point — both for the quality of the Lethbridge and Hanna assets and for the platform we’ve built to advance them. Alongside the extended land tenure we’ve just secured at Hanna, NUE and Green Harbor are entering the next phase of this transaction with significantly reduced risk and clear momentum. This is exactly the kind of disciplined, milestone-driven progress we committed to when we announced the LOI in January, and we look forward to converting this work into definitive documentation.”

Once acquiring a development permit and complete the land rezoning, NU E aims to begin construction on Two and Three later this year. Lethbridge One has been operational since 2024.
