Lethbridge outgrows Rural Renewal Stream permanent residency program

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program has notified Economic Development Lethbridge that the city no longer qualifies for the Rural Renewal Stream. The RRS is a pathway for communities under 100,000 residents to attract newcomers who can address labour shortages.

With a population of 113,671 in 2025 according to provincial data, the City of Lethbridge no longer meets the requirements of the program and will cease operations as of March 29th. The Interim CEO of EDL, Ben Young, says this will make immigration to Lethbridge a little harder for those looking for work.

It’s known that the city has issued 200 endorsement letters to keep people who have settled permanently in the city.
