City council approves 435K for MMIW recommendations and work plan

Lethbridge City Council on Tuesday voted 6-3 to approve the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Recommendations and Work Plan, along with a one-time budget request of $435,000 to be used during a three-year period.

“I obviously am in full support of this and full support of any dollars that will keep us safe, and keep my children safe and my daughters safe. The money needs to be spent, so I’m glad they addressed that,” says Pam Beebe, Indigenous Relations Coordinator.

The proposal, which requested more than $107,000 this year will include community partnerships.
