Wedding venues in Lethbridge preparing for busy summer season

With restrictions being dropped across Alberta, outdoor and indoor gatherings are now an option with no set capacity. Which is resulting in quick turn-around changes for the wedding industry.

Alberta entered Stage 3 of the Open for Summer Plan last week, meaning all COVID-19 restrictions are now dropped. For couples looking to tie the knot this summer, the race is on. Wedding venues around Lethbridge are also quickly adapting to the new changes.

July 1 marked the first time since March that the province would no longer have limits on capacity for indoor and outdoor gatherings. Wedding and Event Coordinator at the Norland Historic Estate, Alexandra Danylchuk, says the last few weeks have been nerve racking and stressful, but also exciting with decisions having to be made quickly.

When the loosening of restrictions were announced, sales manager and events coordinator at Lethbridge Event Rentals, Alinafe Lupwayi, says for the first few days following, the phones were constantly ringing with couples and planners hoping to extend their guests list.

Both Lupwayi and Danylchuk add, with weddings now increased in size, both companies were able to hire new and bring back returning staff after being laid off for more than a year.

Lupwayi says the morale of the industry has started to grow positive as weddings begin to happen this summer

Venues are recommending if couples are looking to book for 2022, to book soon as time slots are beginning to fill up fast.
