There are many causes of homelessness. Addiction, mental health, and economic issues are the main reasons that lead many people to live on the streets. This Thursday, during a session of Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA), Dr. Yale Belanger, professor of Political Science at the University of Lethbridge, spoke on a topic titled “What story do we create about the homeless?” He explained the importance of the community’s perspective on homelessness.
According to Statistics Canada, in 2023, more than 118-thousand people experienced homelessness in an emergency shelter, compared to less than 106-thousand in 2022.
