The Town of Taber, Alberta announced last week that they are putting their arena forward in the Kraft Hockeyville contest, where one arena in Canada can win $250,000 towards arena upgrades and a chance to host an NHL pre-season game.
The Taber Community Centre suffered an explosion back on December 17th, severely damaging their two main ice rinks and curling rinks, and forced the cancelation or relocation of all related programs. No one was hurt in the explosion, but the cause of the explosion remains unknown as does the cost to fix all damages.
However, the Town of Taber remains optimistic that they have a good chance to win if their residents show their support and as to how much the community centre means for the town.
