Stopping invasive mussels in Alberta waters
To protect Alberta’s aquatic habitat, the Alberta government will require mandatory inspections of all watercrafts entering the province starting June 1. In a statement from the Government of Alberta says, Zebra and quagga mussels destroy ecosystems, threaten coastlines, and can cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to infrastructure. For her part, Megan Evans, Executive Director at Alberta Invasive Species Council says it’s a huge concern.
Mandatory inspections will continue until Sept 30th. Next year inspections will start one month earlier on May 1st.
