Snow plows work on Priority 1 routes following recent snowfall

Lethbridge was hit by a winter wonderland across much of Southwestern Alberta on Tuesday. Snow crews have been working around the clock since last night following the recent snowfall the city received. Crews have been working on plowing Priority 1 routes and will continue to follow their priority road system for the remainder of the week. Juliane Ruck, Transportation Operations Manager for the City of Lethbridge, says there are big changes coming for the Phase 2 snow routes.

“Where we declare snow routes when snow accumulation warrants a declaration that means parking bands will be in place. And we ask residents to not park along the road so that our equipment can come in and plow well and maneuver around. So we just distributed parking postcards for those areas that notified everybody. There will be snow route parking signs in the area and we ask people to sign up for the loop app so that we can notify when we declare the snow routes and when they are active so that everybody knows.”

Fortunately, the snow is expected to taper off later this week with sunshine in the forecast starting next week.
