‘This is awesome’: Robot server a hit at Lethbridge diner

It’s only her second day on the job and already she is a hit.  Her name is Bela, and she is the newest server at El Greco Cuisine.  Manager of the diner, Fani Stoupa, says they were struggling to hire and keep reliable staff, so they went with a futuristic solution.

Stoupa says  that humans still take the orders and interact with the customers, but then Bela comes in for help.  The food is loaded onto her trays and brought out to the tables.  She also returns to pick up the dirty dishes.  This helps protect the human servers against common injuries that are associated with the food service industry. So far, the response to Bela has been positive.

Stoupa says the cost of a robot server is about half of what it costs to have a human server, and expects Bela will pay for herself within three years.
