Poppy campaign donates $30,000 for veteran service dogs

Have you heard about training dog for veterans? Veterans in Alberta who are dealing with Operational Stress Injuries and/or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder have access to service dog programs.

The action helps them live more independently and overcome moments of crisis related to these conditions. Today, the General Stewart Branch No. 4 Poppy Fund donated $30,000 toward a dog training initiative. Gary Cook, president of the Poppy Committee, says thanks to donations raised during the Poppy Campaign this service dogs provide veterans with the tools they need to reclaim their place in the community and rebuild their lives.

During the cheque presentation, Miranda Turenne with Alberta Guide Dog demonstrated how the dogs react when a veteran is experiencing a moment of crisis.

It takes two years and over 35-thousand dollars to produced one certified dog.
