New mentorship program launched for young by Farming Smarter

For farming lovers, the group Farming Smarter is taking young farmers under their wing with a new program. The ‘Mentorship Relationships in the Agricultural Community’ program, will see younger and newer farmers mentored on crop production, farm management, sustainability and other key agricultural skills.

Sean Kjos with Farming Smarter says the program helps connect experienced producers with the next generation of farmers while strengthening the future of agriculture in the region.

Kjos says the program has been launched thanks to a grant of $15,000 received from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta. The Applications for both mentors and proteges will open at the end of May 2026. The program will run throughout the year and is tentatively expected to conclude at the end of spring 2027.
