More than 400 plasma appointments to fill in Lethbridge over long weekend

Canadian Blood Services says there are more than 7,000 open appointments that need to be filled by April 10th to continue to meet patient needs.

Here in Lethbridge at the Plasma Donor Centre, staff say more than 400 people are needed between March 30 and April 8.

“The need for plasma is really rising here in Canada and across on a global scale as well. We’ve seen that, and that’s why we’ve opened plasma centres all across Canada. We’re really trying to become more self-sufficient here in Canada and less reliant on the global market for the plasma. It is used for so many different medications. Most commonly, it’s used for immunoglobulins. And we’ve seen such a high increase in health conditions that use plasma that we’re really trying to increase how much we collect here in Lethbridge,” said Brenna Scott, the business development manager for the Lethbridge Plasma Donor Centre.
