Memorial Cup cancelled for second straight year

For a second straight year, the Memorial Cup has been cancelled. The Canadian Hockey League, which represents the Western Hockey League announced today there are too many barriers with COVID-19 pandemic, including travel and quarantine requirements.

Lethbridge Hurricanes head coach, Brent Kisio shared his reaction with Bridge City News.
“It’s tough. You want your players to be able to play for the biggest trophies, and play for the most you can as a team,” says Kisio, “it’s always hard when your older guys don’t get that opportunity and don’t get the opportunity to experience those moments.”

The CHL will announce the timing and location of the 2022 Memorial Cup at a later date.
