When it comes to saving lives, every single second matters, that’s why Lethbridge Police along with Fire and Emergency Service partnered in the creation of the Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) program. The new initiative embeds seven care paramedics with LPS tactical team to provide life-saving care on the scene, such as hostage-takings or active assailant scenarios. Gerald Grobmeier, Deputy Chief with Lethbridge Police Service explains why it is important to launch this initiative. Official says the TEMS concept originated with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in 1971 and has since expanded to agencies throughout North America. Lethbridge joins several other police agencies in Alberta who have TEMS programs.
