Lethbridge sex offender rearrested after breaching conditions hours after release

Police have charged a Lethbridge man with multiple counts of breaching a lifetime prohibition order stemming from a conviction of child sexual offences.

Last Friday, 47-year-old James Robert George Martinac was released from custody after serving four years for sexual interference, child luring, possession of child porn, sexual exploitation and uttering threats.

Police say that within hours of his release; they saw him at the public library using a social media account to view images of children contrary to his lifetime prohibition order. That order issued in 2021 and 2022 prohibited him from attending any community centre, using the internet or other digital networks or social media apps designed to connect with strangers.

Martinac has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
