Lethbridge Police suspends Crime Stoppers participation amid cybersecurity breach

The Lethbridge Police Service has suspended its participation in the Crime Stoppers program following a cybersecurity incident involving the organization’s tip management platform.

LPS says P3 Tips, which is operated by third-party provider Navigate 360, was compromised earlier this year after a data breach impacted Crime Stoppers submissions, including personal information identifying individuals who provided tips. Police say right now they don’t know if anyone who provided tips to the Southern Alberta chapter of Crime Stoppers has been affected by the breach.

It says anyone with concerns about the data breach should be direct their inquiries to the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association. LPS says it will not be commenting further and will carefully review the findings of an investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner before determining whether to resume participation.

LPS says anyone with information about a crime or public safety concern, is encouraged to contact LPS directly at 403-328-4444. And you’re reminded that providing information directly to police does not carry the same anonymity associated with Crime Stoppers.
