Lethbridge Police Service enforces zero tolerance for illegal tint on the front windshield and/or front side windows.

An increase in vehicles with illegal tint has been observed, and two serious pedestrian collisions have occurred in the past two years – one of them fatal – where illegal tint was a direct contributing factor.

Sgt. Tony Ramotowski of the Traffic Response Unit says police will be conducting a targeted enforcement project over the next two months. Ramotowski also states in the las three years, LPS has issued over 1,100 tickets for window tint violations.

Ramotowski says in limited circumstances, drivers may qualify for a medical exemption to tint front windows, and applications must be submitted and approved by the Government of Alberta.
