A 36-year-old man from Lethbridge has been charged by police in connection with the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman last week.

Police say just after midnight on October 3rd, they responded to a third-party report of the incident. They eventually located the woman a short time later downtown. She told police at around 11PM she saw a red car she believed belonged to a friend. An unknown man grabbed her arm, pulled her inside through the window and drove away.

The vehicle travelled from the 500 block of 7th street near the Park n’ Ride to the 200 block of 2nd avenue south, before she was able to grab the keys, causing the vehicle to hit the curb. A male bystander heard her screaming and approached the vehicle to let her out before the driver fled the area. Police located the car and the suspect in a traffic stop and arrested him without incident.

Police are asking any witnesses to call 403-328-4444 if they were in the area of the Park and Ride and Lethbridge Public Library between 11 p.m. and 1AM on October 2nd and 3rd; or observed the vehicle, a 2003 red Pontiac Grand Am during that time.

Dwight Joe Sam Wadsworth is charged with sexual assault, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and assault. Wadsworth was remanded in custody and made his first court appearance Monday.
