Lethbridge businesses phasing out Canada Post services

Businesses here in Lethbridge are reacting to the sudden postal strike and phasing out delivery services provided by Canada Post.

Health and Wellness store, Purple Carrot, says they and other businesses they know have since changed their delivery system away from Canada Post to a variety of couriers since the latest strike. While they admit the process of shipping products out has become more seamless, many of the alternative couriers do not ship to PO addresses.

As for charitable organizations, the Interfaith Food Bank is also phasing out Canada Post services for more alternatives. Executive Director, Danielle McIntyre, says the last strike that hit last year during the Christmas season affected the shipment of newsletters and receiving back donations. Therefore, they will look for ways to become more digitalized. Interfaith says they will have a resource room where people may access computers for securing benefits and cheques.

CUPW, the union representing some 55,000 postal workers took to the picket lines last week after Ottawa announced sweeping changes to Canada Post’s operations to address its troubled financial situation.
