Lent underway, Lethbridge pastor explains the meaning behind the celebration
Many Christians around the world are celebrating Lent. It began on Wednesday and will run for 40 days until April 6th. Joel Klemick, one of the pastors with The Miz City Church in Lethbridge explains exactly what Lent is.
“For 40 days leading up to Easter, the season of Lent, denying themselves something so that they’re prepared to receive everything. And it’s just that simple. Over these days, we deny ourselves something that we would normally enjoy. Food, chocolate, caffeine, whatever it is, so that we’re fully able to enter into all the joy and all the celebration, all the delight that God intends us to experience, and celebrating resurrection and all that Easter is for us.”
Christians believe that Lent leads into Palm Sunday followed by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as Easter is then celebrated.
