Jason Goodstriker to be honoured at relay races

A relay horse race will pay tribute to former Blood Tribe Councillor and Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Jason Goodstriker who passed away last year. The competitors will ride bareback in a highly contested event all in honour of Goodstriker.

There will be three races on Saturday, with four teams in each event.

From there a selection of teams will go into the finals of the Jason Goodstriker Memorial Race Championship.

The CEO of the Rocky Mountain Turf Club, Max Gibb, says this will be the biggest purse in Alberta’s history for relay racing.

For every race there is $2800 up for the winners based on their positioning.

The top four will go into the championship, and the winner will make $3,000.

Gibb says 2,000 people will be allowed in for the spectacle for this weekend.

The races will take place on September 25th and 26th, and you will have to bring proof of vaccination to be allowed inside.
