Heat exposure can pose dangers to health

While many of us look forward getting outside in the warm summer weather, high temperatures like we have experienced this week can pose potential dangers to your health. Bridge City News spoke to AHS Medical Officer of Health for the South Zone Dr. Allison Gonsalves about the problems that can result from over exposure to extremely warm temperatures.

Dr. Gonsalves says if you have to be out in the heat of the day, make sure to apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 30, wear a broad brimmed hat, take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water of other non caffeinated or non alcoholic drinks. She also warns against leaving young children, elderly dependents or pets in vehicles for any length of time as the temperatures can quickly soar in these enclosed spaces.
