Health Card scams targets Albertans

Albertans are being warned about a new scam making its roundsthis onregarding outdated health cards. The Lethbridge Police Service is warning residents not to respond to email and text messages claiming their health card is outdated and must be replaced through an Electronic Health Identification System.

Constable Rob Thibeau with the police Economic Crimes Unit says the messages are fraudulent, and he urges people never to click on suspicious links or share personal information.

Some recommendations to avoid being scammed include verifying any claims by contacting Alberta Health or the appropriate government agency directly using official contact information—not the contact details or links provided in an unsolicited text message.
