Global crime index report places Lethbridge 49th

Two Alberta cities have landed in the top 100 when it comes to crime. According to a report done by Numbeo, Lethbridge placed 56th on the list and Red Deer ranked 67th. The worst of the Canadian cities was Surrey, B.C. which landed in the 49th spot. Numbeo creates a database for quality of life data, crime rates and healthcare quality. The global crime index is based on 459 cities from around the world. Lethbridge Police Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh says even though our city is high on the list, crime has come down since he began with LPS.

“I started in August of 2020 and in that year we reduced crime by 3 per cent. In 2021, we reduced crime by another 8 per cent compared to 2020. We are on a downward trend, which is great.

There are a total of 45 Canadian cities that made the list. Bigger cities like Edmonton and Calgary and Edmonton were low on the list coming in at 238 and 318th respectively.
