Concerns raised over attacks against on-duty first responders

The Lethbridge Fire Fighters Association is concerned about the rising issue of violence against firefighter-paramedics while on duty and are calling for stronger protection.

The President of the Lethbridge Fire Fighters Association, Brent Nunweiler, says action is needed because firefighter-paramedics must be able to respond to emergencies without fear for their own safety.

He also says this is not a new issue.

The union is urging the Government of Canada to pass legislation amending the Criminal Code of Canada to establish meaningful penalties for assaults on first responders.
