Celebrity Sports Dinner coming up for Canes
Former Lethbridge Hurricanes players will be making their way to our city on May 27. The Canes are hosting the 15th annual Celebrity Sports Dinner. Mark Greig and Kevin St. Jacques, who played with the Canes in the late 80s and early 90s, will be in attendance. Both players were inducted into the Wall of Honour earlier this year. They said it will be exciting to get back to in-person events and see some of their former teammates.
“Being in-person is going to be great. Obviously this is the first time I’ve seen Mark probably since his last year. You know, I’ve watched the hockey and I’ve watched him play. Never could get to a rink and get in there and rattle him behind the glass or something. But, I’m stoked to get back there and meet the alumni and reminisce. Because this is- it was a great time,” says Kevin St. Jacques.
Mark Greig says it will be great to get a chance to connect with old teammates during a night of induction, “I’m looking forward to seeing the guys too. Also, a lot of people in management. Peter Anholt and I are close. I feel fortunate that I’m going in under his kind of eye. He’s been such a good presence in the league. Not only in Lethbridge, but over the years. Little bit of a mentor for a lot of us in different regards. It makes it neat.”
Greig is one of nine players in team history to score 50 goals in a single season and St. Jacques set the all-time franchise record with 65 goals in a season in 1991/92.
