Capital Improvement Program (CIP) review postponed 2 weeks
Lethbridge City Council was set to make final decisions for the 2022-2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) —Recommendations from Economic Standing Policy Committee. Deliberations have been postponed until June 1.
Councillor Blaine Hyggen proposed postponement of the vote (5.1) for two weeks. The motion was carried 8-1, and will be postponed until June 1. Councillor Rob Miyashiro was opposed.
Furthermore, Mayor Chris Spearman proposed an amendment to postpone the discussion until after the new council is elected on November 1. The motion was denied 6-2, with Spearman and Jeff Carlson in favour.
Supportive housing recommendation added
Prior to the postponement, councillor Rob Miyashiro introduced an amendment to add an item for affordable housing. If approved, the recommendation would work to develop additional supportive housing through matching grants. Five million dollars would be allocated from the CIP. The motion carried 7-2. Councillor Joe Mauro and Councillor Blaine Hyggen were opposed.
