Canola roguers needed

Canola roguing is an essential part of agriculture. A Lethbridge based recruiting team, Select People Solutions, is in need of people to pull out unwanted plants from the ground that are affecting the seeds. Ryan Miller, the director of the company, says the initiative is the largest employer of youth in our area for over 20 years. He says it is basically a glorified weed pulling job.

“They use labor to do that. It’s not by machinery or chemicals, it’s literally hand-picked. We have crews up to about 300 people that work the season to go head across and we over a million acres of canola a year to go ahead and do this quality assurance check on these fields. Most of these people are under the age of 18, 90 per cent would be. It’s a huge youth content to fill these crews and get out there and understand our world of agriculture.”
