Brooks working towards expanding broadband internet

MacLeans Magazine came out with its top communities in the country in which to live and work in 2021. Coming in at number 9 is Brooks, Alberta. Brooks is the only city in southern Alberta to crack the top 10. Researchers based their results on incidents of crime, affordability, population growth, and internet accessibility.

Brooks Mayor, Barry Morishita says he’s happy with the result, but knows how important broadband internet is, and hopes it will improve for local residents.

“We’re exploring a couple of options right now. We’re working with a consortium to bring fibre into the community, and then broadband service available to every resident and every business,” says Morishita “with high speeds…gig speeds up and down because that’s what the new economy is going to require”.

Brooks aims to have this service built in by the end of the year.
