Bear attack on the Great Divide Trail

 

A Calgary hiker was mauled by a bear last Friday around 11:19 am. The incident occurred on the Great Divide Trail, near Window Mountain Lake. The Public Information Officer, with Alberta RCMP, Cst. Cory Riggs, says despite the man receiving substantial injuries to his head and leg, he was able to called for help. The official says with the assistance of Crowsnest Fire Resuce, Fish and Wildlife, and Search and Rescue, and STARS, the male was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. Riggs gives more detail about this sadly incident. Riggs says no matter what your experience level is; while exploring the wilderness, SOS devices are an essential tool for anyone who may find themselves in an emergency situation. Always make sure that you notify others of your planned route, along with your time of departure and approximate return.
