Analog Books encourages students to write through short story competition
Analog Books is hosting a brand-new short story writing competition for high school students. An official with the bookstore says the competition came to be after they were approached by the chancellor of the University of Lethbridge, Terry Whitehead, who suggested the idea of having an Analog prize and having it be solely for high school students in Southern Alberta. Penny Warris, the Co-owner of Analog Books, explains the importance of encouraging students to write more.
“We want to curate and cultivate an atmosphere where they feel free to submit a short story and there’s no cost to them. And just the idea that writers always write in their basement and they’re always introverts and all of that, but the idea that your story will actually get read, even if it’s just by a dozen people, um, that’s something that I think that generation doesn’t realize is out there yet.”
The deadline for submission is the end of February 26th. The award will then be given out in May.
