Alberta NDP call for freeze on auto insurance
The Alberta NDP is calling on the province to put an immediate freeze on auto insurance. During a media conference in Calgary Thursday morning, MLA for Lethbridge-West Shannon Phillips says the UCP have always done what’s best for them and not for the people of Alberta when it comes insurance. Phillips says removing the cap on insurance led to premium hikes of over 30 per cent and it’s time for the Premier to put a stop to this.
“Danielle Smith has a choice to make. She can either overrule her finance minister, who signed off on removing the cap in the first place, the guy who made that backroom deal with those insurance lobbyists, or her only other choice is to cower to those same lobbyists and allow her finance minister to continue to sit in their pocket while you continue to pay. This is very simple. No more cost hikes until we can get a handle on the skyrocketing costs,” said Shannon Phillips, MLA for Lethbridge-West.
Phillips adds, Albertans have been faced with inflationary pressures that have not been seen in decades.
