Lethbridge school leaders receive Blackfoot names

Receiving a Blackfoot name is a meaningful honour that connects a person to Indigenous culture, identity and community.

On Thursday, Holy Spirit Catholic School Division Superintendent Chantel Axani, Deputy Superintendent Anthea Boras and Board Chair Linda Ellefson were each given a Blackfoot name during a special surprise ceremony at Children of St. Martha School.

The ceremony was part of the division’s annual Pow Wow. The ceremony comes during a time when communities across Canada are reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation, including the importance of  learning about and respecting First Nations cultures, traditions and ways of knowing.
