Lethbridge Police say an altercation at a northside park last week led to a youth attacking a man with a knife. A 14-year-old has been arrested and is now facing numerous charges.

On July 23, just after midnight, police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a physical altercation at Legacy Park. Further investigation determined two masked males approached a 19-year-old male, and one of the subjects produced a knife and proceeded to attack the victim before leaving the area. The victim, who was with a group of friends, was transported to the hospital where he was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, including numerous lacerations.

The subject was identified and a police cordon was set up while officers searched the park, however he was not located at that time. On July 24, the male subject was located at a residence and arrested without incident.

The parties involved are known to one another.

A 14-year-old male, who cannot be identified, is charged with aggravated assault, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, disguised with intent and failing to comply with a probation order (not to possess any weapons).

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, the youth was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court August 12.
