Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says the widespread cancellation of more non-urgent surgeries may be necessary because the largest hospitals in the province are filling up with COVID-19 cases. Kenney says hospitals are at 91 percent capacity due to the coronavirus. He says Alberta currently has 8,500 hospital beds.
