A Christian organization called the Mustard Seed is expanding into Lethbridge. The group plans to provide sober supportive housing to our city's most vulnerable. The nonprofit already provides over half a million meals per month, and nearly 500 shelter mats to various communities in the province. A church in Winnipeg has filed an injunction against the Government of Manitoba which issued new public health orders saying drive-in church services cannot be allowed during the COVID-19 pandemic. So far the province has fined Springs Church over $20,000 for hosting drive-in services.Read More
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says the widespread cancellation of more non-urgent surgeries may be necessary because the largest hospitals in the province are filling up with COVID-19 cases. Kenney says hospitals are at 91 percent capacity due to the coronavirus. He says Alberta currently has 8,500 hospital beds. Around 2,400 are being set aside for pandemic patients and one quarter of those beds will be in intensive care.Read More

The City of Lethbridge has extended the mandatory face covering bylaw until at least February 23rd. In a vote of 6-3 on Monday, council voted for the extension which was set to expire on December 31st. Mayor Chris Spearman says with increased cases of COVID-19 more needs to be done. The Blood Tribe has re-elected Chief Roy Fox. Fox garnered the most votes with 628 — around 23 percent of the ballots cast.
